A hands-on Erasmus+ teacher training course in Hungary
– where sustainability meets creativity in STEAM learning

Description

Concept by Gergely Barna

More than coding – it’s creation with purpose

Imagine your students designing their first robot — not from expensive kits, but from upcycled parts.
Imagine the spark when they realise they can build the future with their own hands.

This 6-day Erasmus+ course empowers educators to integrate sustainable, low-cost robotics and AI-assisted development into real classrooms.
Through hands-on experiments, soldering, and teamwork, you’ll master the building blocks of modern STEAM learning — electricity, coding, collaboration, and creativity.

By the end of the week, you’ll walk away not just with a working robot, but with a complete set of tools, ideas, and confidence to run your own school-based robotics club or makerspace.

Locations: Szeged, Békéscsaba, or Budapest – Hungary
Language: English (support in Hungarian available)

Who is this course for?

  • Teachers, trainers, and education innovators
  • ICT, science, or STEAM educators
  • Makerspace facilitators and STEM coordinators
  • Erasmus+ participants eager to bring robotics to life

No prior coding or electronics experience required — just curiosity and a willingness to learn by doing!

Why educators choose this course

You’ll build a robot from scratch – and understand every part of it
You’ll learn how to turn waste into learning tools
You’ll explore AI-assisted coding (ChatGPT, Copilot) safely and creatively
You’ll promote sustainability through upcycling and innovation
You’ll collaborate internationally with teachers who share your maker spirit

What you’ll experience

  • Learn the foundations of electricity, safety, and Arduino-based systems
  • Build and program your own robot using recycled components
  • Prototype and test your ideas in online simulators before soldering
  • Use AI tools to generate and improve real code
  • Take part in playful “Robot Sumo” and creative design challenges
  • Reflect, share, and plan your next STEAM adventure back home

Course Overview – 6 Days of Making and Learning

Day 1 – From Sparks to Circuits
Get inspired by makerspace pedagogy.
Explore electronics safely — current, voltage, power, and batteries — and discover Arduino and ESP32 microcontrollers in action.

Day 2 – Solder, Simulate, and Start Building
Dive into digital prototyping using Tinkercad and Wokwi simulators.
Then, grab a soldering iron and practice safe assembly before building your robot’s first physical components.

Day 3 – Move and Think
Program your robot to move and react!
Work in teams to develop obstacle avoidance and basic autonomous behaviours through hands-on coding.

Day 4 – Robots Meet AI
Learn how ChatGPT and GitHub Copilot can assist coding.
Challenge yourself with a creative task: make your robot follow a line using IR sensors — no step-by-step guide, just teamwork and AI help!

Day 5 – Wireless Control & The Robot Sumo Challenge
Explore WiFi and Bluetooth control via ESP32.
Create your own remote controller and put your design to the test in the friendly Robot Sumo arena.

Day 6 – Future Makers & Reflections
Plan how to adapt low-cost robotics to your own classroom.
Present your project, exchange ideas, and celebrate innovation together.
